What is Faith Formation?
Faith formation is defined by Vibrant Faith Ministries as “equipping people to live as disciples of Jesus.”
John Roberto affirms the notion that faith formation informs, forms, and transforms the person, whether, child, youth or adult – into a robust, vital, and life-giving Christian faith that is holistic: a way of the head, the heart, and the hands.
Ezekiel’s Vision for Life Long Faith Formation is:
Engaging all generations in the body of Christ, connecting to Jesus and to one another, passing on faith active in love, so that all may be made new by the love of Christ. When there is a baptism, as part of our Lutheran baptismal liturgy, the whole congregation promises to support and pray for the newly baptized:
To live with them among God’s faithful people, Bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, Teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, Place in their hands the holy scriptures, And nurture them in faith and prayer, So that your children may learn to trust God, Proclaim Christ through word and deed, Care for others and the world God made, And work for justice and peace. (ELW pg. 228)
Since our faith is a journey, we believe Faith Formation encompasses all ages and stages of life.
